Holix Play for Jellyfin

The Holix plugin adds household profiles to your Jellyfin server: every Holix Play profile becomes its own hidden Jellyfin user, so watch history, Continue Watching and parental controls work natively on the server — in every Jellyfin app.

The plugin is released and open source. Holix Play itself is not in the stores yet; without the app the plugin does nothing visible.

What it does

  • Profiles as Jellyfin users: the household owner creates profiles; each gets its own watch state and recommendations. Library access is copied from the owner, admin rights never.
  • Parental controls from age bands: kids profiles (all, 7+, 13+, 16+) become Jellyfin parental limits for Turkish, US and German ratings. Birth dates stay in your Holix account and never reach the server.
  • PINs enforced on the server: opening a PIN-protected profile needs a short-lived, signed proof from the Holix cloud — calling the server directly does not bypass the PIN.
  • Guest profile: no watch history, play counts or resume points are kept.
  • Profile pictures also appear in other Jellyfin apps.

Requirements

  • Jellyfin server 12.2.0 or newer.
  • Holix Play on your devices and a Holix account for PIN-protected profiles.
  • A regular (non-administrator) Jellyfin user as the household owner — see below.

Install from the repository

  1. In Jellyfin open Dashboard → Plugins → Repositories and choose +.
  2. Name it Holix Play and paste this URL:
    https://holixplay.com/jellyfin/manifest.json
  3. Open Catalog, choose Holix → Install.
  4. Restart the Jellyfin server.

Updates then appear in the catalog. Manual install: download the zip from GitHub releases and unpack it into Jellyfin's plugins/Holix_<version> folder, then restart.

Set up

  1. Create a regular Jellyfin user for your household and give it the libraries your family should see.
  2. In Dashboard → Plugins → Holix add that user to the users allowed to create a household.
  3. Sign in with that user in Holix Play and create your profiles; the app links the household to your Holix account.

Important: the household owner should not be a Jellyfin administrator. An administrator can use Jellyfin's own admin tools to sign in as any profile, which no plugin can prevent.
